I usually starts loosely. I sketch, test colours and let the image develop rather than planning every detail in advance.

Oil pastel is especially important to me because it allows for visible texture, imperfect edges and layered colour. I often leave parts unfinished, let the paper show through and use unexpected combinations instead of trying to make everything look polished.

What interests me most is character. Whether I’m working from a photograph or developing a freer piece, I try to keep something spontaneous and alive in the final image rather than simply reproducing what I see.
